Profile
Dr. Hiroshige Fujii, LL.M (Dokkyo), Adv. LL.M (Leiden), Ph.D. in Human Security (Tokyo), is an Associate Professor at Utsunomiya University, Japan. His research and teaching are on international criminal law and human rights in theory, practice, and peacebuilding research methods. As a UNU Global Leadership Training Program member, Fujii was a visiting fellow at the University of Cape Town in 2016-2017. He has professional experience in the Philippines, Ghana, and the Netherlands, and he has been engaged in UN Peacekeeping Operations as a Program Advisor in Japan’s Cabinet Office (2014-2016). He analyzes the logic of both sides, those who decide to judicial intervention and those targeted by International Justice, by conducting fieldwork to elucidate how post-conflict society has been transformed. His research has contributed to the debate on building peace in the region, especially in Africa, by adopting international law, political science methods, and area studies approaches. His academic papers have been selected for two prestigious academic awards for young researchers in Japan (2021 & 2022), and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science funds his research (2021-2025).
